Setting Up Netscape Mail and
News
- If you have not already
done so, launch Netscape.
- From the top of the
screen, select Edit, and then select Preferences
from the bottom of the list that appears.
- The Preferences screen
should appear, from the left-hand pane of the screen double click on
Mail & Groups.
- Next click Identity
from the left-hand pane.
- A list of options
should appear on the right-hand pane. In the option box marked Your
Name enter your name, as you would like it to appear in your
email, family, and colleagues. You can enter just about anything in
this field.
- In the next field
enter your email address. You must enter the username you selected plus
@boo.net. Your email
address should be all one word and all lower case. Here are some examples,
info@boo.net, service1@boo.net,
jsmith@boo.net.
- You can ignore the
rest of the fields on this screen. Your Reply To Address
is the same as your email.
- Next click Mail
Server from the left-hand pane.
- In the first option
box that appears in the right-hand pane, Mail Server
user name, enter just your username in all lower case.
- In the field labeled
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, type boo.net
in all lower case.
- In the field labeled
Incoming mail server, type boo.net in all lower case.
- Make sure the option
labeled POP3 (messages and folders are kept locally, on the hard
disk) is selected.
- Make sure the option
labeled Leave messages on server after retrieval is
NOT selected.
- Next click Groups
server from the left-hand pane.
- In the first option
box labeled Discussion groups (News) server type pnews.boo.net
Leave the rest of the options in their default settings.
- Click OK
- You are now ready
to send and receive mail. The Netscape mail launcher is usually located
in the bottom right hand corner of your Netscape Navigator screen.
