Windows 2000 and XP Connection Problems and Getting to Various Websites

Have you just moved to Windows 2000 or Windows XP and noticed problems connecting and also odd situations with Various Websites? The problem may be found with your Dialup settings. Microsoft has Multi-link and LCP Extensions settings that may be reset to get much better results. The following two sets of steps will help you make a quick change to your connection configuration that should fix most errors found with Windows 2000 or XP

Modifiying your Windows 2000 Dial-up Networking

CLICK the Start button.

CLICK Settings

CLICK on Control Panel

DOUBLE-CLICK on the NETWORK and DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS icon
(the icon looks like two computers in front of a yellow filing folder)

RIGHT-CLICK on the BooNet dial-up connection icon in the Network and Dial-up Connections folder

From the drop-down menu, CLICK Properties (at the bottom)

CLICK the Networking tab at the top of the Properties window

then CLICK the Settings button

CLICK to remove the checks from Enable LCP extensions and Negotiate multi-link for single link
(Please make sure that Enable software compression is checked)

CLICK OK and then CLICK OK again to close the windows and save changes


Modifiying your Windows XP Dial-up Networking

CLICK the START button. CLICK CONTROL PANEL

DOUBLE-CLICK on Network Connections

RIGHT-CLICK on the BooNet connection icon and CLICK PROPERTIES on the menu
(You will find properties at the Bottom of the drop-down menu)

CLICK the Networking tab near the top of the Properties Window.

CLICK the Settings Button located 25% of the way down the Networking Properties window.

In the PPP Settings window, Remove the checks from Enable LCP extensions and Negotiate multi-link for single link
(Please make sure that Enable software compression is checked)

CLICK OK and then CLICK OK again to close the windows and save changes
